Whether you have only an hour or two to volunteer or if you are interested in a more involved role, there is a place for you within the LES PTA.

Standing Committes & Descriptions

After school program: Coordinates third-party enrichment programs to be offered after school in the Spring; this year we are hoping to add Fall programs.


Awards: Stays informed of potential PTA award opportunities and applies for them on behalf of the PTA.


Book Fair: Responsible for the planning and execution of the annual book fair. Book Fair usually happens in the late Fall/during holidays season.


Carnival: Responsible for the planning and execution of the annual Spring carnival — typically in April.


Cultural Arts: Works closely with teachers + staff to coordinate and schedule cultural enrichment programming, and the annual Author Visit.


Destination Imagination: Coordinates school teams to participate in the district Destination Imagination competition in early Spring.


Fine Arts: Works closely with teachers + staff to plan and coordinate the annual Artist in Residence program.


Family Events: Organizes family/community events such as: BooHoo! YaHoo! Breakfast, Family Movie Nights, Parent Information Sessions, etc.


Graphic Designer: Designs graphics for PTA events, website and communications collateral.


Hospitality: Responsible for the organization and execution of the annual Welcome Teacher Breakfast, Meet + Greet, Open House, Holiday Cookies for Teachers, Administrative Professionals Appreciation Day, Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.


Marquee: Responsible for keeping the outside marquee up to date.


Legislative Affairs/Parliamentarian: Assists the president to manage meetings and advises on parliamentary procedure. Chairs bylaws committee to review unit bylaws each year and revise bylaws every five years. Arranges nominating committee's first meeting, providing information on nomination and election process. Maintains a position of impartiality, and therefore, must forego their right to vote.


Reflections: Organizes Larchmont Elementary's participation in the annual National PTA Reflections competition.


Rewards Program: Organizes the publicizing, collecting and sorting the Box Tops, Labels for Education, Tyson A+ labels etc. Also encourages parents and faculty to link any grocery store and Target RED cards to our school, and the use of Amazon Smile.


Restaurant Night: Coordinates restaurant night fundraising.


Room Parents: Oversees and coordinates the Room Parent volunteers; serves as liaison between teachers, room parents, school,and  PTA.


Run At Twilight (RAT): Responsible for the planning and execution of the annual Fall RAT Race.


School Store/Spirit Wear: Maintains school spirit store operations and coordinates design/sale of Spirit Wear merchandise. Also works with teachers to compile the list of supplies for the school year, work with the supply pack vendor to put together pre-packaged packs of school supplies for each grade level to be sold to parents and students, and distribute the packs when they are delivered.


Watch D.O.G.S.: Organizes the LES Watch D.O.G.S. program, which recruits and coordinates "dads of great students" to volunteer in the school.


Web Genie: Assists Corresponding Secretary to maintain website.





Our PTA is made up of hard-working parents & teachers who pool their talents to provide practical support for our school. Those listed below volunteered to provide leadership this year. Get to know their names and faces, and feel free to ask them if you have questions.

Shall preside at all meetings of the PTA

Coordinates the work of the officers and committees of the PTA

Submits all necessary paperwork to Virginia PTA
Serve as administrator for PTA website and social media platforms

Serve as ex-officio member of all committees, except the nominating committee


Summer Brennan, 1st Vice President, Volunteers


2nd year LES parent


1st Vice President:
Works closely with all committee chairs for the purposes of recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers for events.
Serves as administrator for PTA website, and social platforms.


Laurie Taylor, 2nd Vice President, Membership


2nd year LES parent


2nd Vice President:
Coordinates the work involved in recruiting membership; and works closely with the Hospitality Committee to plan and execute community events.
Serves as administrator for PTA website, and social platforms.


Allison Arbuckle, Treasurer


5th year LES parent



Keeps full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures.
Makes disbursements as authorized by the president, executive board, or general membership
Presents written financial statements at every meeting
Submits audit report to Virginia PTA
Submits IRS tax forms
Remits dues to Virginia PTA and National PTA by deadline.
Serves as administrator of the PTA website, and social media platforms


Julie Walsh, Recording Secretary


11th year LES parent


Recording Secretary:
Record the minutes of all PTA meetings and posts them to the website
Keeps official copy of PTA bylaws in files
Maintains membership list as required by Virginia PTA
Keeps and maintains the list of standing committees; and maintains executive board year-end transition documents.|
Serves as administrator for PTA website, and the weekly emails.


Kim Murray McDonald, Corresponding Secretary


4th year LES parent


Corresponding Secretary:
Serves as editor of the PTA's printed newsletter
Sends weekly emails to all membership; as well as any special email(s) at the discretion of the president
Keeps and maintains submissions for the printed newsletter, and the weekly emails.
Serves as administrator for the PTA website, and social platforms
